I lived in and around Little Rock for about 10 years. Its the birthplace of Emo Boy (and Enigma, kinda), where I lost my virginity and my mind after my mom and stepdad died.
Little Rock is, to say the least, bittersweet.. Normally, I just drive through on my way to see my BFF and/or Grandmother in NW Arkansas. Staying here is strange. Lots of ghosts, lots of really good times, too.
I got to spend a few hours with two of my high school BFFs (when I say time, I mean it was pretty much uninterrupted because Freedom took on the kids in the pool while we talked). We caught up, a little (16 years is a long time) and I was a little sad that their kids all play sports together. They’re threatening to send me house listings and employment oppportunities and its almost tempting to take them up on it, if it wasn’t Arkansas. No offense.
The drive… I know that driving across the Tennessee Taint is long and potentially hallucinogenic, and this time was no exception. It may have had something to do with the first three hours of stopping to gather supplies for a video project in the works. The Taint took for-freaking-ever. Wow.
I get Emo Boy back tomorrow and then we head to Sapphire’s for a few nights. I hope she’s ready for us.
That’s all I got. Two days in the car, fabulous kids, Mr. Amazing and another week of travels in which I remember who I am, again, and where I really want to be at the end of it all.

It’s amazing that a road trip and a few friends can bring you back to who you were…who you are in the moment. It sounds so pure. Just back from my road trip to New Mexico and after being in the car for two days, and 90 miles out of San Diego I started feeling home…but not in a good way. Bills, back to work, earthquakes, eating enough fruits and vegetables and drinking less. Geesh! By the time I got home though I told my brain you better shut off and learn to be in the moment or I’m shipping you back to Gila Bend in 115 degree heat. So enjoy, come what may! I know you will.
