Summer Solstice, historically, is a time to celebrate the joy and warmth of summer, and an opportunity to release fears and sadness. It honors the feeling you get when you open your door and walk out into a perfect, sun-shining day. Make the most of today, folks, even if you’re not one of the barefoot hippies I like to call my friends. Summer is here!
My weekend was bittersweet. I put Emo Boy on a plane to Arkansas for four weeks, got naked at the airport (those new fangled security scanners) and drove home in DC Beltway traffic horrors, singing at the top of my lungs, because it was the most alone time I’ve had in a while. I rocked, by the way, y’all should have been there.
Yesterday, Freedom and I took the three other kiddos to our local deluxe pool (waterslides, etc.) and let them frolic in the water. The Twitches were dancing in the water to the Reggae that was playing, so in order to get them to leave, we promised them a Jamaican party at home. Veggie kabobs, platters of food, music, flower leis and rum. Copious amounts of rum.
Aside from the moment where I tried to inhale a shot, it was awesome. I also got one of the best nights of sleep I’ve had in a long, long time. I’m sure those two facts are completely unrelated. My life is weird.
So, back to the job hunt and portfolio building I go. But, first, the SOTW!

What was the shot? I might try to reproduce that, so I get a good night’s sleep.
Happy Solstice to you too!

Spiced rum a la Freedom. It was good, but painful.

Hot fun in the summertime…I’m waiting for some of that. Just graduated Kelly from high school yesterday and while it was a lovely warm day, I felt gray. But you’ve inspired me! Perhaps all I need is copious amounts of rum, reggae music, water and a good night’s sleep.

@Michelle Zive,
I highly recommend that as a cure for the gray. Wine may or may not be a good cure, as well. I’m sure I could think of others.
Congrats on the graduation! It gives me hope that I may actually survive my crew’s childhoods in one piece.
