There are days when I ponder the big picture, when I try to determine who I am, where I’m going and how I can help the world. Then there are times when I try to figure out what I like better… women or boobs. If I had a dollar for each minute that involved thinking about women, boobs, or women’s boobs, I would be a rich, rich lady.

In particular, I love how women join together to help each other, and I especially love watching this happen online, where I have a tiny piece of that magickal pie. On the other hand, I also love boobs – particularly those attached to women who are joining together to help another. Its times like this that my job as a Chick Guru seems to be the most important job in the world: feeling those boobies facilitating those connections.

A few days ago, I glanced over at my Twitter feeds and noticed a hashtag that said “#boobsforanissa” and I was immediately curious. I had seen the “#prayersforanissa” hashtag here and there, but, well, this was boobs. I wasted no time, because boobs are special, and women are special… but women holding virtual hands while sending their love, support (and cleavage) to another woman in need is beyond special. It is pure joy.

Anissa Mayhew is a mother, wife, a blogger and according to her Twitter page bio, she is “Like snorting pop rocks, but without the headache.” Anissa also is currently in a rehabilitation facility, recovering from the two strokes she suffered in November, 2009. According to her husband, she was not given a great prognosis, especially after the second stroke but as of December 30, 2009, she is coming back to the world, her world, and in her own Anissa way:

There were some local school kids who came out and very graciously played various instruments and read some pieces.  Nathaniel and I made our way through the crowd and got to Anissa.  She was thrilled to see us.  One of the things that she’s in need of working on is volume control on her voice.  She needed that before all this happened actually.  When we got there, Anissa looked up at us and said, “you’ve got to get me out of here.  They’re trying to kill me.”  She nodded her head at the kids doing the musical performance.  Then one little boy pulled out a violin.  Anissa looked back up at me and said, “See!” (more here)

I’m not going to say that I know anything about Anissa, her friends or her family, except what I have read on her blog and her Twitter page. I am going to say, however, that the struggles that family has beaten, and continues to triumph over, are examples of the triumph of the human spirit. If you aren’t offering #prayersforanissa – no matter your faith (or lack thereof), maybe its time to start. (Read her updates here)

So, really, this blog is about boobs. Its about boobs because Anissa was about boobs. Her friend, Christina (a/k/a @CutestKidEver on Twitter), has organized a boobtastic fundraising calendar to benefit Anissa’s family during this difficult time. “Anissa has always been quite proud of her fabulous boobs, so much that her boobs are like a running joke, with people at conferences claiming they took a picture with Anissa ‘and her boobs.’ So I thought, why not come up with a fundraiser that celebrates boobs?”

(I personally think its genius, and I’mma get one so I can have a reason to have boobs on my wall, it will totally freak out my 11-year old, plus, I can giggle as I Tweet… and it really is a good cause. )

12 other Twittering women offered to showcase their cleavage (and one nekkie boob shot!) on a calendar for their friend. More women offered, but were turned down, because someone forgot to tell 2010 to have more months. LeSigh. These are women bloggers, women who want to help another woman during a crisis, women willing to bare their boobies for a cause worth fighting for: the friendship of a woman who would likely do the same thing for them. In this case, the cause worth fighting for is Anissa “Screw world peace. The world needs more bread bowls full of baked potato soup. Th peace will folow.” Mayhew.

Peace to the Mayhew family, and lots of strength and good mojo to Anissa. Keep on fighting, because I expect to Tweet with you one day, and I hate being stood up.

By the way @CutestKidEver, if having a bunch of boobs on your desktop makes you a perv… then, uh… just embrace your perviness. That’s what I do.

It takes a true friend to put her boobs on film.
