Sometimes, there are words that feel weird as I type them out. Among those words, is the phrase, “I played football,” because, really, I’m just not sporty. But, I was absolutely willing to test out a product from ZeloSport when they asked, because I’m all about new experiences.
ZeloSport has taken “finger football” to new levels with their crazy-accurate tabletop (or floor) game of football. They even have baseball, soccer and golf, but I didn’t try those out, even though I probably know slightly more about those sports than I do football. I will admit, at first, that I was extremely intimidated by this game. Intimidated because it has all sorts of rules about something that I was inevitably going to have to ask The Husband about, thus breaking my “I know more than you” rule in the Lore household.
The conversation truly went like this:
TH: “Do you want me to play with you?”
Me: “No, because you have to read the instruction manual and then you’ll know more than me.”
TH: Fine, I’ll do dishes.
Me: “Ok, I’m done being weird, come and play because I don’t know how to play football and I’m confused” *cry*
Ironically, during all of this and the subsequent actual PLAYING of the game, I was reminded of a really bad yearbook photo in which I’m holding up the thing that signifies what “down” it is during the JV football games, way back in high school. Obviously, there was a boy involved in that one.

(Not the actual Lore family, although we would certainly all wear different jerseys to show our individual “I’m always right” attitudes.)
Back to the game. I’mma explain this in my best, humiliating girly way. Please keep in mind that I struggle with my own penchant for the more “domestic,” slices of life. I love to cook, I love to do crafty things, etc. I do not love football, or many other sports. So, here we go:
The board is vinyl, making the slidey football thing really fun to thump with your fingers. Seriously, even without rules, you could totally make your own game of slidey fun, which is probably why there is a baseball, golf and soccer version. Plus, this game comes with a foam football, where you can position your enemy competitor directly in front of you as you “flick” a football at his head. Up until that point, Talker (age 11) was not exactly impressed with the game, beyond my same fascination with the slidey thing, but once The Husband managed to score a field goal AND hit Talker in the head, Talker wouldn’t leave us alone. It DOES encourage family togetherness!
The rules. Well, I’m sure that after I play for a while, actually watch a football game that doesn’t feature my teenage crush and learn how to play football, I may understand them a bit better. Its truly a game for people who know the rules of football, which I don’t, but I had a great time playing, regardless.
I am, overall, very impressed with the game, and I really do want to try the other versions. But, I cannot, because I promised the nice people at ZeloSport that I would give them away on HippyMom, instead. Go buy one today! You’ll have a blast!
