As I may or may not have mentioned, I tried to sell a bunch of tie dye on Halloween at a local “Fall Festival” here in NoVa.
My HOA (uh, that should have really told me to stay away, since I am ethically against HOAs, but whatever) sponsored the festival that should have happened on the 24th. Well, it got rained out, so it was rescheduled for the 31st (just writing this small paragraph, I see now that I was doomed).
I spent about 450 hours getting ready for this. I dyed, tagged, staged my display in my “dining room,” twice, and hounded my friends for advice. Needless to say, it was a total flop… and that’s fine, because really, who tries to sell cack outdoors, on a parking lot, knowing how freaking windy it is here? There were canopies flying everywhere… and the event itself was truly insulting to those of us who paid to participate. We were quarantined from the actual festival, with only a hayride to keep us company. Boo. Stupid HOA, stupid rain. Stupid stupid stupid.
Here is my display though… its beautiful!

And, here it is, five minutes later… after the winds hit…

Then, it was about four hours of nothing. I did manage to buy some Indian shirts for myself, so it wasn’t a total waste of time.
That was my experience. I’ve learned a few things from this…
- Stepford still sucks
- HOAs are minions of oppression
- I can set up a canopy, alone, in 10 minutes
- I can fly across a parking lot to rescue an escaping canopy of another vendor
- Talker is a Pixie Stix enabler
Now pity me and go buy some of those dyes on Etsy, because I just busted my ass to get them online. Do it, now. Melia’s Etsy

Pixie Stix are freaking awesome, but apparently HOA’s are big fat thumbs DOWN. Sorry, yo. I’ll check out your site, duder.
