You, yes you, are a feminist. You are walking around in pants, you are driving a car, you are on a computer reading this. These are all because you are a feminist. You are not afraid to speak your mind and you are using the tools given to you by your mothers and sisters to move forward in this world, maybe wearing a fabulous new pair of boots or just in your mommy sweats.

Congratulations, by the way, for being who you are because it took a lot of work to get there. But, don’t get too comfy, because more challenges are still ahead of you.

I have finished my last book for this semester and in the 20-something books I’ve read, I’ve learned a lot about myself, about you and about our world. What I don’t know yet, is how to impart this knowledge onto my children in order to keep the momentum going… but, I’m learning. That is the reason for the change here. The world is certainly not perfect, and much of that has to do with the inequality between gender, race and sexual orientation. Its our job to keep pushing forward, to show our kids and the rest of the planet that we are just as valid as anyone else – regardless of gender, skin color, socio-economic status or anything else that serves to define a group of individuals.

It starts with one post, one blog, one article or one speech. Its a collective that is growing daily, even if we don’t all see how we’re working toward the same goal. Its our voice, both single and together, that creates the change. Go with it. Shout it. Be it.
